Tougher National Education Standards Drafted, Posted
3/12/2010

Draft versions of new math and English standards for U.S. schoolchildren have been drafted and released for public comment, as part of an effort to better prepare children for college and careers.  Led by the National Governor's Association and Council of Chief State School Officers, the goal of the new effort is "'fewer, clearer, and higher' standards that are uniform nationwide, giving students in urban, suburban and rural school districts equal access to high-quality material".

The new standards will require improved textbooks, data systems and standardized tests, among others.

For more information on the proposed new standards, access the article available on the USA Today Web site.
