Illinois House Votes to Eliminate Scholarship Program
3/5/2010

On Wednesday, the Illinois House of Representatives passed a measure that would eliminate the college scholarship program known as the General Assembly Scholarship.  Under the program, each General Assembly member can select students to receive tuition waivers at any of Illinois' public colleges and universities.

Due to recent concerns that members are using the program as rewards to campaign donors, either reforms to or elimination of the program is being considered.

The measure now moves to the Senate for consideration, where passage seems less likely.
