A November 5, 2008 article from the Chicago Sun-Times reports that, due to the current state of the economy, college students who will be graduating this year or next will face a challenging job market. The National Association of Colleges and Employers estimates that approximately 50% of employers will hire fewer college graduates in 2009, which is a change from the results of an August survey that had indicated hiring would increase. Experts believe that uncertainty regarding the economy is prompting companies to be more conservative with their hiring plans.
