Tips to Help College Freshmen Avoid Unwanted Weight Gain
8/27/2008

According to an August 27, 2008 article from Scripps Howard News Service, following a few healthy guidelines can prevent college freshmen from gaining unwanted weight during their first year away from home. Having a set meal plan, eating a balanced breakfast every day, keeping metabolism levels up by eating something every few hours, and avoiding excessive amounts of alcohol are among the tips provided. One guideline for maintaining a healthy weight is, at each meal, to fill one-quarter of the plate with protein, one-quarter with carbohydrates, and the remaining half with vegetables and fruits. College students are also encouraged to take advantage of nutritional counseling that might be offered via the campus health center.

The article is available at the Chicago Sun-Times Web site.
